Cherry Coffee defines this tumultuous romance: the highs and lows, no matter how far they may transport us from our intended destinations, remain deeply connected to ourselves and our interpersonal relationships with those we hold closest. 

Designed by Brennan Hickey, he pays homage to “Cherry Coffee” (Prod. Jam City), the thirteenth and final track of Kelela’s critically acclaimed 2013 debut, Cut 4 Me. Glossy, synth-driven, and subtly ambient, the closer strings together the Maryland musician’s silky vocals with striking ease. “It’s a twisted cycle you’ve confused with love,” Kelela professes to her lover if only to alleviate herself from a psychological purgatory. She admits she’s suffering, but she also knows she can only let go if the departure is mutual.
